“My earliest memory isn’t of a boat, but the sound of a boat,” commented Karl Lagerfeld. And a boat was exactly what he used as the backdrop for the presentation of Chanel’s nautical themed Cruise Collection. The collection, a nostalgic nod to 1920s-inspired holiday fashion featured feminine silhouettes, signature tweed and a predominance of white tones.
Over the years, Chanel’s advertising campaigns have become fashion items under Lagerfeld’s expert eye exquisitely portraying beauties along the likes of Margot Robbie, Tilda Swinton, Gisele Bündchen, Vanessa Paradis and Keira Knightley.
For their latest campaign, Chanel turns to Penélope Cruz. The Spanish Oscar-winning actress, who has worked on numerous projects with other fashion labels, has for years admired Chanel’s unique style. “They have created this fantasy,” she explains, “it makes you dream.”
